Holidays

Wouldn’t you love a day dedicated to just children. I would, I mean who wouldn’t. Well lucky Mexico because there they have a holiday called Children’s Day. In Spanish Children’s day is El Dia Del Niño and is on April 30th. This amazing holiday has been going on since 1925. This holiday focuses on loving and appreciating your children hence the name Children Day.On this day a lot of stores have discounts or have kids get in free deals. In conclusion I would love it if Kentucky made this a holiday.

Have you ever wanted to have a kite contest. Well if so you should go down to Pakistan on January 22nd celebrate Basant also known as Vasant Panchami. During this holiday you will see people flying kites of many different shapes with their families. This holiday is all of Pakistan but is the most popular in the Punjab region. You will see a lot of different shades of yellow because this is how they show the start of spring. Although the main focus of this holiday is kite flying that’s not the only thing that goes on,there are also a lot of vendors sell bracelets called bangles. Finally many people also exchange gifts/treats and dance to songs.

My final holiday is O-Bon. O-Bon is a japenese tradition and is considered one of the most important holiday. On August 13th to August 15th it is believed that the spirits come back to home to visit with one each other. Since it is such an important holiday it is very important to come from work to pray with your extended family(aunts, uncle, grandparents, cousin and etc.). People will clean their house and give offerings to the spirits such as fruit/vegetables in front of a Buddhist altar. On the first day paper lanterns called  chochin are lit inside the house and near the family grave site as a calling to the spirits to come home. On the last day they paint the family crest on the chochin to guide the spirits back to the grave site. After all of this Japan is full of the smell of incense .
